Drought in the Greenbelt

Wild Petunia

Wild Petunia

Barton Creek has been dry for most of it’s course through the greenbelt for months now, so I’m always amazed to see wildflowers blooming. Right now there are lots of wild petunias and Turk’s cap.

The news for the American Beauty berries is not so good.If you’re not familiar with these they’re the plants that are covered with clusters of purple berries along the stem in the fall.

Right now they should be setting fruit, but they are clearly drought stressed. Some of the plants have some green berries, but many have already turned black and are dead. Doesn’t look like we’ll see a lot of these this year.
